Feature roast – Yabitu Koba – Ethiopia


Transcend’s director of coffee Josh Hockin talks about how this coffee is coming into its own:

“When the Ethiopia Commodities exchange was created, most coffees grown and processed in Guji would be trucked over to Yirgacheffe town for sale, with their provenance lost to everyone upstream. This is certainly not the case anymore, as new washing stations are being constructed and new coffee farms are being planted all over Guji.”

We cupped this coffee a few weeks ago right after we participated in the World’s Largest Coffee Tasting with coffee Youtuber James Hoffman. Reflecting on that experience, and listening to Hoffman talk about lessons learned, we think we made the right choice to feature an Ethiopian coffee for our Edmonton Downtown Farmer’s Market patrons. Hoffman suggests the response indicates:

 “If you’re looking to give someone their first special coffee experience … go with a beautiful washed Ethiopian coffee”.

Well then, we’re on the right track!
